One of my recent projects was transforming some beautiful toddler furniture we were given into a color pattern that fit my personal taste. The bird bed and bench dresser came with one stipulation – once our daughter grows out of it, we’re to pass the sturdy furniture along to another little girl so she can have her dream bedroom too. Baby Girl is the third princess to receive this blessing.

Here is the metamorphosis.

I transformed these pieces with a lot of love and patience. For the bed, I removed all the wood detail on the bedposts and hand painted each piece. But, my secret weapon was a new paint I discovered from Maison Blanche Paint Company.

Maison Blanche paint colors will magically morph that special piece of furniture you’ve been hanging onto and refusing to get rid of because you’re still hoping it’ll have a new day. Don’t forget the companion waxes or glosses, which are an essential part of the process. Their amazing, shabby chic colors give an extra oomph to your paint coatings.

Here are a few other tips I learned from my project as I became familiar with Maison Blanche:

  1. Water-based paint makes for very easy cleanup of accidental splatters (and hands), plus has a super fast 15-minute dry time.
  2. One 32-oz can of Franciscan Grey allowed me to complete my project with two coats and still have nearly half a can left over for other transformations.
  3. The Organza Shimmer Coat can be applied to painted furniture after 24 hours of drying. The shimmer coat makes so much difference, even my hubby said so. “Yup, worth the extra $30,” he agreed. “I get your vision. It pops so much more!”

Local Austinites can find Maison Blanche paints at REVIVAL, which also happens to be my favorite antique and DIY inspiration shop. For all you non-Texans, click on Maison Blanche to find a local retailer.

Happy Painting!
